NOTES FROM THE FIELD November 15, 2009 Of all times to forget my digital camera in California. The last of our hunters left this morning, and we have no hunters booked for this week. But the deer are still in rut, still moving during the day. Yesterday I saw a big antlered deer walking thru the orchard, and today in the woods, I surprised another. Local people hope that the rut doesn’t last till gun season. This year, the weather has been very excellent; daytime up to 60, nighttimes 30s to 40s. Deer are moving, the rut has not ended. This last week, hunters took 3 very nice bucks, and a couple big does. One deer reminded me of a unicorn; it had a third horn in the middle of its forehead. If you can take the time, this is an excellent chance to get the biggest deer of your life, “so far,” as our three most recent hunters did. One was a 10 point, one a nine, then the odd deer. The odd deer scored, per the hunters’ measurements, a 165. My husband took photos, but they are not digital but film. They will go up on the website, eventually. To book now, email me at terry@jefferstreefarm.com.
